Lessons in compassion

OK 2016…are we done here yet?

Let’s face it friends, its been a rough one. And it doesn’t seem to be letting up any time soon. In the wake of an election that has given groups rooted in divisive hate and discrimination “permission” to rise, our community is hurting. The worst many of us have seen in our lifetime.

As the energy has shifted, my classes have been full of tears. Anxiety. Fear. Stress. Anger. And I’ve done my best to hold the space and give everyone permission to sit with it. All of it. To feel whatever comes up. Thats the hard part isn’t it? Resisting the urge to “push through” with our tried and true avoidant coping mechanisms and instead stop and FEEL the gamut of emotions that inevitably rise, trusting that each and every emotion is valid.

Regardless of your political views, its no secret our world has spun out and we currently find ourselves drowning in a sea of hate and division. Words and actions previously deemed unfathomable to our generation have become a commonplace reality and I, for one, am finding myself unsure of how to exist in a world attempting to “normalize” such atrocities.

Whatever you’re feeling, whatever you’re going through, please remember that you’re surrounded by a community going through the exact same shit. Knowing this, we have the opportunity to spark change. To be kind to strangers, remembering that we are all in this together. To pay it forward, trusting that our voice deserves to be heard. To invest in causes and people that spark hope and change, not only to us but to our community as a whole.

STEP ONE: be kind to ourselves first.
Take an hour out of your day to meditate, reset, go to class, do something that makes you feel rejuvenated and cared for. Surround yourself with likeminded people who lift you UP. Need something bigger? Join me in Panama, Feb 5-11, for a magical yoga retreat escape! Promise you don’t have to come back…

STEP TWO: pay it forward.
Donate. Volunteer. Get involved. Take action. Whatever that means for you, do SOMETHING to support your cause & your community. Be part of something bigger – trust that you deserve to be heard.

Not ready to get political? Team MuscleButt is looking for team members and taking donations to fight rare cancers with Cycle for Survival…kicking cancer in the butt always feels good!

I’m here to support you, whatever you need. Always.

All my love,
*lindsay
